County to take up agreement for implementing new Dungeness water rule

(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County commissioners are expected to move closer to implementing a controversial state water rule for the Dungeness Valley.
This week, commissioners will again take up a memorandum of understanding with the state Department of Ecology. The MOU vote was tabled a week ago after issues of potential liability were brought up.
The county needs the MOU to outline its responsibilities under the DOE's new rule. The MOU process also hammered out an arrangement for the state to help pay the costs for mitigating future water use in the Dungeness Valley.
Commissioners are also expected to vote this week on a contract change that has the state adding another 100-thousand dollars to deal with mitigation.
