PREP BASKETBALL: Rider girls win thriller

(Port angeles) -- The Port Angeles Roughriders held off North Kitsap Wednesday night 68-54 in a foul-filled, free throw-filled, turnover-filled contest.

The two teams combined for 47 personal foul which resulted in 35-55 combined free shots, with North committing 34 turnovers, the Riders 25.

PA had a 15-8 first period lead and led by 12 in the second when NK rallied, closing the gap to 29-27. The Riders took a 47-41 third period lead and pulled away late in the game to the final margin.

Maddie Hinrichs had 25 for the Riders, hitting 11/20 free throws. Macy Walker had 13, Shayla Northern 12 and it was Northern's long three-point shot early in the final period which helped the Riders build a cushion.

Port Angeles (5-0, 5-1) goes to Bremerton to battle the Knights for the league lead Friday. Bremerton is 4-0. The game will be broadcast on KONP at 6:40
