City expects to save thousands with new employee time system

(Port Angeles) -- The city of Port Angeles hopes to save money by keeping electronic track of employees' work hours.
The city council last night approved a new
electronic time card system.
City finance director Byron Olson says it'll save time and money.
Employees will fill out an electronic "time sheet" that is forwarded to supervisors for approval. The document then is sent electronically to the finance department for payroll processing.
The city is trying to further control employee costs. Staff are making a stronger effort toward curtailing overtime hours where possible.
Olson says the new time-tracking system should also save the city save $25-to-to 30 thousand dollars per year.
Olson says the finance department has fewer staff now and the efficiencies of the new system will allow employees to be tasked with other projects.
