Fire damages Sequim church

December 26th, 2012 - 5:34am

(Sequim) -- A Christmas-day fire damaged part of a Sequim church.

About 5:40 last night, Fire District Three was called to what was believed to be a chimney fire in the 1300 block of Sequim-Dungeness Way north of Sequim.

It turned out the steeple at First Baptist Church of Sequim was on fire.

The first units there reported active fire in the steeple. The church was not occupied at the time.

The fire was contained to the steeple. Crews shut off power and put out the blaze.

They also removed the top portion of the steeple due to safety concerns.

No one was injured. The cause is still under investigation and a damage estimate hasn't been released.
