Ordinance passed for 9-1-1 misuse

(Port Angeles) -- The Port Angeles City Council this week passed a measure regarding the abuse of the 9-1-1 emergency number.

Hangup calls and non-emergency reports on a 9-1-1 line are time-wasters to emergency dispatchers.

The ordinance will enable the City to impose adminstrative sanctions against a person who repeatedly misuses the 9-1-1 system.

Repeated violations could result in a fine of up to 250 dollars.

If three or more violations occur with a 12-month period, a criminal violation may be determined and the person could be prosecuted.
