PREP BASKETBALL: Rider hoopsters top Redskins

(Port Townsend) -- The Port Angeles boys won their first Olympic League game of the season, holding off Port Townsend, 56-53 in the Key City.

The Rider girls swamped the Redskins, 54-33 at home for their 8th straight league win.

BOYS - Port Angeles survived a spirited PT comeback in the last period to preserve their narrow win.

PA broke from a 22-22 halftime to lead 37-32, but PT roared back and nearly wiped out a 12-point Rider lead in the last quarter as they forced 31 turnovers.

PA made the Townsend crew cough up the ball 28 times. but had to hold off the Redskins at the end.

Caleb Treider led PA with 19, Hunter Hathaway had 16 for the Riders, Cody Russell hit for 21 and Dan Charlton had 10 for PT.

GIRLS - Port Angeles broke away from a 15-13 first period to a 28-21 halftime lead, then outscored PT 26-12 in the second half.

Mariah Frazier had 12, Mlacy Walker 12 for PA, Jewel Johnson had 12, Codi Halinen 10 for the Redskins.

PA leads Bremerton by one game oin the league standings.

PA boys host North Mason Friday, the girls go to Belfair.
