PREP BASKETBALL: Sequim boys 61, Bremerton 58

(Sequim) -- A pair of potential game-tying Bremerton 3-point attempts clanged off the rim in the final seconds as the Sequim Wolves survived a furious Knights' comeback with a 61-58 win Tuesday at Rick Kaps Gym.
The victory gives Sequim (7-1, 9-3 overall) sole possession of second place in the Olympic League boys standings, dropping Bremerton (6-2, 8-4 overall) a game back into third place.
Sequim will host Olympic (8-0) Friday night for a chance at a share of the league lead. The Trojans romped over North Kitsap 63-35 Tuesday to remain unbeaten in circuit play.
Bremerton outscores Sequim 27-17 in 4th quarter
The Wolves led by as many as 15 points early in the final stanza.
Bremerton ramped up its defensive pressure and held Sequim to just 10 rebounds in the final half.
Sequim point guard Anthony Pinza fouled out with 2:25 remaining with the Wolves up by 8 at 57-49.
The Wolves committed 19 turnovers in the contest and the Sequim press break suffered after the loss of their point guard as the Knights continued to chip into the lead.
Sequim's Rory Kallappa hit 2 charity tosses with 44 seconds left -- the Wolves' final points of the game -- leaving the hosts ahead by 7 -- 61-54.
Kallappa finished with 11 points.
Bremerton's Mikey Lawrence canned a pair of freebies with 27 ticks remaining, cutting the margin to 61-56.
Lawrence had 13 of his 15 points in the final period.
Costly missed free throws
Sequim's Jayson Brocklesby, the game's leading scorer with 24 points, missed a one-and-one attempt
with 24 seconds left.
A deflected rebound gave the Wolves possession, but a Knights' steal and a layup by Andrew Shadle pulled Bremerton to within 3 with 15 seconds to go -- 61-58.
Shadle had a team-high 18.
Sequim's Gabe Carter, who had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists, failed to connect on a one-and-one attempt with 14 seconds left in regulation, leading to the frantic final seconds.
Bremerton's Deonti Dixon's missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer from the left wing that was rebounded by Mikey Lawrence, who missed another trey from the right wing.
Shaq Jones tracked down a long Bremerton rebound in the left corner as the klaxon sounded, ending the game.
Big early run for Sequim
Sequim led 18-7 after the first period and continued a 16-0 run into the first 2 minutes of the second period, ahead 24-7 with 5:48 left in the second frame.
Bremerton outscored Sequim 15-6 the rest of the way to intermission, closing to 30-22 at the half.
The Wolves led 44-31 after three quarters.
In other Olympic League boys action, Kingston downed Klahowya 64-46 and Port Angeles scored its first league victory, dropping Port Townsend 56-53.
In Olympic League girls games, Bremerton drubbed Sequim 50-32, Klahowya beat Kingston 45-34, North
Kitsap tripped Olympic 54-39 and Port Angeles defeated Port Townsend 54-33.
