Rider cagers bite Bulldogs

The Port Angeles girls remained unbeaten in league play with a 53-33 win at North Mason, while the Rider boys held on to beat the Bulldogs at home, 68-62, their third straight win after dropping 10 in a row.

GIRLS - The Riders put on the pressure in the second period to outscore the Dogs 23-8 to take a 35-15 halftime lead, then held NM to two points in the last period to take their 9th league win.

Maddy Hinrichs had 13, Macy Walker 10 to lead the Riders, while Jennifer Hicks hit 12 for North Mason, canning three long bombs in the third period.

Bremerton remained one game behind PA by beating Klahowya, 54-27.

BOYS - North Mason roared away to a 21-11 first period lead, hitting five 3's early, but Port Angeles battled back and closed to 31-28 at halftime. The Riders then ouutscored the visitors 26-12 to take a 54-43 lead into the last period.

The Riders were up by 14, but NM mounted a comeback, trailing 64-62 with 1:27 left.

Masono coach Steve Hackett was hit with a technical fould after the Bulldogs had stolen the ball at mid-court.

Rider Hayden Gunderson made two free throws,but the Bulldogs missed three attempts at long-range shots,then had to foul

PA's Hunter Hathaway missed a free shot, but got his own rebound and scored to make the final margin.

Gunderson at 15, Derek Schumacher had 14, Caleb Treider 13. Riley McKean led Mason with 25, 20 in the first half.

PA boys go to Kingston Wednesday, the girls host the Bucs.
