Clallam lake may have toxic algae

January 17th, 2013 - 5:46am

(Forks) - A west Clallam County lake may be experiencing a toxic algae bloom.

Yesterday, Clallam County's Environmental Health Division issued an advisory for Lake Pleasant.

Environmental Health director Andy Brastad says a suspected algae bloom recently appeared and it is being tested to determine if the algae bloom is toxic and presents a danger to humans and animals.

Brastad expects the results in about a week.

Until then he's advising people, pets and livestock to stay away from the water. He says fish from the lake should be thoroughly cleaned prior to consumption until the toxicity tests are complete.
