City to fight BPA rate increase

January 18th, 2013 - 6:47am

(Port Angeles) -- The city of Port Angeles will fight another wholesale power rate increase from the Bonneville Power Administration.

The city council unanimously this week directed staff to take part in an effort to oppose the increase. City officials say, if enacted as proposed, the new wholesale power rates could add another one million dollars in costs to the city.

Those rates would go into effect in October.

The BPA is looking at changes to how it charges for transmission rates for utilities.

The proposal would effect all utilities that get wholesale power from the BPA, including Clallam PUD as well as the city locally.
