Rotted trees taken down to keep lights on

January 18th, 2013 - 6:47am

(Carlsborg) -- A grove of poplar trees has been cut down in part to keep electricity on.

Clallam County PUD crews earlier this month took out more than 300 trees along Kitchen Dick Road.

The trees were planted on Weyerhaeuser property as a wind break for the company's seed farm there.

But PUD executive communications director, Michael Howe, says the trees were rotted. They were the cause of a major power outage in early December, when one of them fell into a power line and knocked out electricity for 10-thousand customers.
