Verdict today in ODT assault case

January 22nd, 2013 - 5:45am

(Port Angeles) -- A verdict is expected today against a man accused of assaulting a bicycle rider along the Olympic Discovery Trail last summer.

23-year-old Spencer Silva was arrested more than a month after the July incident. Superior Court Judge Brooke Taylor presided over a two-day bench trial last week.

Silva faces multiple charges in the case. He's accused of accosting the 22-year-old female bicyclist near the Railroad Bridge Park.

Sheriff's deputies used video from a nearby surveillance camera to arrest Silva.

Prosecutors say Silva was carrying a distinctive knife and wore a Halloween mask at the time of the alleged assault.

In addition to trail assault, Silva also was charged with burglary and voyeurism related to another case in which prosecutors say he opened and peered into the bedroom window of a sleeping 17-year-old girl in Carlsborg in 2011.
