Unemployment rate up again in Clallam County

January 24th, 2013 - 6:19am

(Port Angeles) -- Unemployment rates jumped up again last month in Clallam County.

According to the state Employment Security Department, the rate locally rose to 9.9 percent. It was at 9.1 percent in November.

The state's regional economist for the area, Elizabeth Court, says part of the rise is attributed to more people looking for work again.

But Court says there were still about 130 fewer jobs in the region between November and December.

Court says the area had an average unemployment rate of 9.9 percent for all of 2012.

Last month's rate was about a full percent lower than in December 2011.

Statewide, the unemployment rate is at 7.6 percent.
