Chinook motel gets new owner

January 29th, 2013 - 6:22am

(Port Angeles) -- A Port Angeles eyesore for many years may be getting an overhaul.

The Chinook Motel on East First street has attracted a buyer.

Port Angeles community and economic development director Nathan West says the city is working with the new owner who plans to refurbish the building and re-open it as a lodging facility. The buyer was not disclosed and there is no firm timeline for the project.

However, workers arrived last week to start clearing out the old furniture and work on the property.

The city condemned the run-down motel in 2009. It had been for sale for more than a million dollars, but a final price has not been disclosed.

The half-century-old motel at the corner of First and Ennis was once a destination stop in Port Angeles, but fell into disrepair over the past couple of decades.
