PREP BASKETBALL: Riders, Sequim split hoop doubleheader

The Port Angeles girls ran their Olympic League record to 13-1 with a 47-28 win over Sequim (5-9) Thursday night.

Sequim battled hard through the first half, trailing 18-11, but PA found its offense and defense in the second half and outscored the Wolves 27-17 the rest of the way.

PA was led by Maddy Hinrichs with 14, Mariah Frazier had 11. Alexis Besand led Sequim with 11.

The Riders go to PT Tuesday, Olympic Friday, while Sequim hosts Bremerton Tuesday and PT Friday.

BOYS - Sequim (13-1) handled the Riders easily and let up on the offense late in the game on the way to a 91-55 win.

Sequim broke away from an 18-16 lead in the second quarter when Jayson Brockelsby slammed home a steal, then he connected on a long three just before the quarter end to make it 23-16.

The Wolves went on to a 50-26 halftime lead and coasted in the second half. Brock wound up with 25 with three slams helping deflate the Riders who fell to 2-12 in league play.

The Riders host PT Tuesday, Olympic Friday,while Sequim goes to Bremerton and PT.(see companion story for game details)
