(Port Angeles) -- New sixth district Congressman Derek Kilmer says he's hearing a lot of concerns about jobs and the economy on the north Olympic Peninsula.
Kilmer made his first stop back in Port Angeles on an official since taking office.
Kilmer met with business leaders in the Port Angeles yesterday. He also toured Magna Force and the Coast Guard base.
In an interview with KONP, Kilmer said the economy is still the big concern.
"We're just out trying to listen to the concerns and see what our staff can do to help get this economy going," said Kilmer.
Kilmer's stop in Port Angeles comes after similar visits at other spots around the congressional district.
He saaid there are some familiar themes at all the stops, ranging from tax codes and regulations that don't stiffle business growth, to access to money for expansion to workforce training.
Kilmer also said he is putting in a lot of miles since taking the federal office. He is not maintaining a permanent residence in Washington D.C.. Instead, he is commuting from his home in Gig Harbor. He is sharing an apartment with another congressman while in D.C.
