Fundraiser gets local teen closer to surgery for dog

February 4th, 2013 - 6:27am

(Port Angeles) -- A Port Angeles teen has raised enough money to pay for a special surgery to save his dog's life.

A fundraiser over the weekend brought in nearly three thousand dollars for the Sholinder family to proceed with a surgery for their dog Max.

Max is a five-year-old German shepard mix that his owner, 15-year-old Kyle Sholinder, says started to have trouble late last year walking. Max was diagnosed with Wobbler's Disease", a compression of discs in the spine. Without surgery, the dog would be paralyzed and could die.

The surgery to treat the disease costs around seven thousand dollars. Sholinder organized a benefit concert-fundraiser held Saturday night. The money raised there will go with about another three thousand dollars already brought in through a social-media campaign Kyle launched.

Sholinder has set up an account at Sound Community Bank and is also taking online donations through his facebook page, savemydogmax.
