Local agencies crack down on outstanding warrants

February 15th, 2013 - 8:12am

(Port Angeles) -- Local, state and federal authorities spent the week on a major crackdown on arrest warrants.

The Clallam County sheriff's office, local police office, Department of Corrections and tribal and federal officers all took part in clearing 31 warrants and arresting 26 people from Port Townsend to Forks.

Clallam County chief criminal deputy Ron Cameron says in some of the arrests, other crimes were discovered. He notes the arrest this week of an alleged mail thief in Port Townsend stemmed from the operation. Some other cases involved illicit drugs.

Cameron says some of the new cases are still open so an accurate number of additional charges are not yet known.

He says during this week's event, very serious crimes in which warrants were issued were the focus. He says there are still more than 1,000 warrants still outstanding that will be the focus of future cooperative operations.
