KONP changes FM frequency
February 15th, 2013 - 10:25am
(Port Angeles) -- KONP is now offering it's programming to the north Olympic Peninsula at 101.7 FM. The station has completed a move down the dial two clicks from its former location at 102.1 FM.
“We were able to increase our authorized power for the FM by moving to another frequency,” said KONP General Manager Todd Ortloff. “We felt it was a good opportunity to increase our service to the area, especially with so many people listening on our FM channel.”
KONP has operated on both AM and FM since 2008. The station was the first AM station in Washington state to get special Federal Communications Commission authorization to simulcast its AM programming on an FM translator. Translators are normally reserved for repeating FM station programming.
KONP continues to broadcast at its original 1450 AM. It has operated on that frequency for 68 years serving the Port Angeles-Sequim area.
