County, park service agree county will build part of trail around Lake Crescent

February 22nd, 2013 - 5:45am

(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County Commissioners reached agreement this week with Olympic National Park officials on a section of the Discovery Trail around Lake Crescent.

It's part of the Spruce Railroad Trail restoration project. Commissioner Mike Doherty says, under the agreement, county crews will be working on both the east and west ends of the old railroad trail.

The county will use some federal grant money it has had for nearly three years to do the engineering and construction of the sections. Doherty says it will included ADA accessible areas and there are some sensitive areas that will need to be mitigated.

Federal crews will work on the section of trail that goes around the lake.

The county is also finishing up about nine miles of the Olympic Discovery Trail west of Lake Crescent.
