ONP prepping for budget crisis

(Port Angeles) -- Olympic National Park is preparing for budget cuts as sequestration arrives for the federal government.
ONP superintendent Sarah Creachbaum says there won't be much of an effect due to sequestration immediately. But the park will start to see issues in the coming weeks or months if the budget crisis isn't addressed.
She tell KONP there is already a hiring freeze, but ONP stands to lose about 600-thousand dollars that would be used to pay seasonal workers this summer.
But she says a bigger issue is a looming government shutdown later this month if the government doesn't pass a continuing budget resolution.
If a shutdown happens, ONP would close roads and visitor centers and only essential personnel such as law enforcement would remain on duty.
The park faced a similar situation in 1995.
