Fire at Sequim storage facility
March 7th, 2013 - 6:34am
(Sequim) ---Fire District Three crews quickly put out a storage-unit fire before it could spread and cause further damage.
The call came in just before five last evening of smoke coming out of a storage building located at 741 N Sequim Ave., the Sequim Stow Space.
Crews cut their way into the unit and vented the roof to get smoke out of the building.
Fire district spokesman Patrick Young says there was heavy damage to belonging inside the unit where the fire started but only minor water and smoke damage was reported to the neighboring units.
He says firefighters later removed all items stored in neighboring units to other secure units on the property. The building's roof sustained moderate damage above the fire but remained intact.
Young says firefighters were able to salvage many items from the damaged unit including a piano, but many other personal items were too damaged to save. The owners of the items stored in the unit stated they belong to their daughter who resides over-seas.
There's no damage estimate and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, although it is not considered suspicious.
