Port hires consultant for western PA harbor issue

March 27th, 2013 - 6:20am

(Port Angeles) -- The Port of Port Angeles has hired a Seattle firm to study potentially polluted sediment in part of Port Angeles harbor.

The nearly two million dollar contract to Floyd Snider Inc., was awarded this week.

The company will finish an investigation and develop a potential cleanup plan for the area.

The state Department of Ecology has named the port and four other entities, including the city of Port Angeles, as potentially responsible for the pollution.

The five parties will have to come to an agreement with DOE on a plan to determine the type and amount of pollution and clean up.

Ecology holds an open house on the draft documents concerning the sediment study and clean up tomorrow night at 6:30 at Linkletter Hall at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.
