Unemployment rate continues to rise in Clallam
March 28th, 2013 - 6:24am
(Port Angeles) -- Unemployment is up again in Clallam County.
The latest state numbers show the rate edging up to 11.2 percent last month.
That's up about half a percent from January and but about three tenths of a point lower than February of 2012.
February's unemployment rate increased even though the number of available jobs in the county increased. Elizabeth Court, the regional economist for Employment Security, says there are effects of people employed outside of Clallam County but still living here. If they lose a job elsewhere, the unemployment rate goes up in their "home" county.
There were 24,830 Clallam County residents working last month and 3,130 trying to find a job.
To be considered part of the labor force and included in this survey, a person must either be employed in a part-time or full-time capacity, or be actively seeking work.
Statewide, the unemployment rate remained at 7 point five percent in February.
