PA ferry terminal improvements nearly finished

(Port Angeles) -- Plans for a revamped ferry terminal in Port Angeles are on schedule.
Black Ball Ferry Line co-owner Ryan Anderson says the construction project to put in a new dock area and other facilities at the company's Port Angeles terminal continues to progress. He says he expects a lot of the major work on the dock to be finished later this month, with cars driving on the new area sometime in May.
Workers still must install a number of amenities as well as decorative fencing around the new dock.
Anderson says the emphasis right now is on replacing the west timber Pier, with replacement of the turning knuckle next he says that work will take place in 2015.
A major hurdle for Black Ball has been getting permits from numerous agencies, especially since they are building over the water, but Anderson thinks it'll be clear sailing for a while as they now have the necessary permits in place for the time being.
Meantime, Black Ball continues to ramp up promotions for the ferry service between Port Angeles and Victoria.
Black Ball's Ryan Malane says they have a new slogan: Get Off The Rock", designed to get Vancouver Island residents to come to Port Angeles.
Malane says a new promotion called the Pub Crawl is designed to bring Victorians across the water for a day of sampling the local brews, after which they can simply walk back on the Coho to go back home. Malane said it's proving popular.
Malane said both Victoria and Port Angeles civic leaders are pushing for increased tourist activities in their respective cities.
Malane and Anderson spoke to the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce yesterday.
