Stenson retrial moved to Kitsap County

April 4th, 2013 - 11:00pm

(Port Angeles) -- The retrial for a former Sequim man accused of killing his wife and business partner won't happen in Clallam County.

Yesterday, Darold Stenson's trial was moved to Kitsap County.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brooke Taylor says he agrees with defense motions that Stenson couldn't get an impartial jury and fair trial in Clallam County. Taylor will preside over the trial that is set to begin July 8th.

Stenson's original trial and death sentence was overturned by the state Supreme Court last year.

Clallam County prosecutor Deb Kelly is not seeking the death penalty in the retrial.

A jury found Stenson guilty in 1994 in the killings of his wife Denise, and business partner Frank Hoerner at an exotic bird farm near Sequim.
