New Port Angeles ferry dock opens

(Port Angeles) -- A new dock for the ferry in Port Angeles is now in use.
For vehicles arriving via the Coho, the new dock that should improve moving through U.S. Customs.
The Black Ball Ferry Line, owners of the Coho spearheaded the upgrade to the dock when they signed a 30-year lease with the Port of Port Angeles.
The company then paid for the dock facility upgrades in return for a reduced lease payment.
The project replaced the original creosote timber with concrete pilings and deck panels to create the new 27,000 square foot dock.
Black Ball's Ryan Anderson says the new dock offers improvements for passengers and vehicles. Mainly he says it allows much more space to get vehicles off the ship and through the customs area, eliminating long backups.
Black Ball plans some more future upgrades to the terminal in Port Angeles.
The company is currently working with Canada's Provincial Capital Commission for a similar upgrade in Victoria.
Black Ball CEO, Ryan Burles, is hoping to negotiate a 20-year lease with Canada's PCC as part of the Victoria dock upgrade.
