Port Angeles real estate market picking up quickly

May 2nd, 2013 - 6:28am

(Port Angeles) -- The housing market in Port Angeles is improving.

Two officers with the Port Angeles Board of Realtors say the numbers are continuing to show a better market and increases in prices.

"We are in a market recovery right now. We are selling more homes now than last year. Our prices as the end of 2012 actually bottomed out and now we're seeing price increases," said realtor board president Kelly Johnson.

And Johnson expects it to continue.

"We are seeing lots of activity. Our pending sales are up 54 percent from last year at this time," said Johnson.

Past realtor board president Dick Pilling said the market certainly has turned from its lowest points over the past few years.

"In mid January it was like somebody flipped a switch. We have transitioned from a strictly buyers market to a mixed market and it is looking good for the sellers," said Pilling.

Pilling said as the market improves, the prices are going up.

"We are certainly going up and the available housing supply is going down," said Pilling.

The Port Angeles figures appear to be a bit more positive than the county-wide numbers at this point.
