EPIC day at OMC Saturday

May 3rd, 2013 - 5:24am

(Port Angeles) -- Olympic Medical Center switches to a massive, new electronic medical records system tomorrow.

OMC has spent the past year working to install the system called EPIC.

The hospital is spending seven million dollars on the project. But it will receive almost all of it back by implementing the system on time as required under federal health care reform laws.

The system will link all aspects of the medical center's facilities from patient admission to billing. Officials say it will increase efficiencies and also allow patients better access to their medical records.

Scores of staff from other facilities that already know the EPIC system have been brought in to help with the local switch.

OMC is moving to the new system under it affiliation with Swedish and its arrangements with Providence Medical Center.
