Not guilty plea in bulldozer rampage

May 16th, 2013 - 5:38am

(Port Angeles) -- A Port Angeles man has plead not guilty in a bulldozer rampage.

51-year-old Barry Swegle entered the plea yesterday in Clallam County Superior Court.

He's charged with assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of burglary with a deadly weapon and four counts of malicious mischief.

Investigators say he hopped on a bulldozer at his property in Gales Addition and destroyed three homes, damaged a fourth, flattened a pickup truck and knocked out power to thousands. The rampage last Friday afternoon caused an estimated 300-thousand dollars damage.

No one was injured, but a woman in one of the houses was able to scramble out of the building just as Swegle allegedly started destroying it.

Swegle could face life in prison if convicted on the burglary and assault charges.
