City approves memo for work toward new waterfront building

(Port Angeles) -- The Port Angeles city council this week took another step in improving the city's waterfront. The council approved a 3-way partnership between the city, the Feiro
Marine Life center and NOAA.
The entities will work together toward building a center for the marine lab and NOAA's Olympic Coast Marine Sanctuary.
Sanctuary superintendent Carol Bernthal says the memorandum of understanding outlines a partnership between the groups to further pursue a new center somewhere in the downtown area.
She says the agreement doesn't necessarily mean a new aquarium will be coming to the PA waterfront, although that could come to the plan later.
Bernthal says along with new headquarters for the Olympic Coast Marine Sanctuary, the marine life center would get a whole new space, moving out of its current cramped quarters on City Pier.
The next phase of the project will involve a look at what the agencies would like to build, and the costs involved.
