Speed limit lowered after fatal Highway 101 crash

May 30th, 2013 - 5:31am

(Port Angeles) -- In the wake of a deadly accident earlier this month, the state has lowered the speed limit through a construction zone between Port Angeles and Sequim.

The limit was lowered to 45 miles per hour for a two-mile stretch of Highway 101 between Shore and Kitchen Dick Roads.

The move comes after May 20th, three-vehicle crash in the area that killed 52-year-old Bryan Crawford of Port Angeles. The crash also hurt four others.

Crash investigators say speed may have been a factor in the crash. They also say there have been a number of other near accidents in the area since the construction project started.

Crews are beginning to widen the section of Highway 101 to four lanes.

Fines are double in construction zones.
