Retrial of Sequim murder case delayed

June 13th, 2013 - 6:19am

(Port Angeles) -- The retrial for a former Sequim-area man accused of killing his wife and business partner twenty years ago has been delayed.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brooke Taylor pushed the trial for Darold Stenson back to September. It had been scheduled to start next month.

Taylor yesterday also tossed efforts from Stenson's attorneys to have the two murder charges dismissed.

Prosecutors had argued the trial should go on, but also requested more time to prepare. The trial will be held in Kitsap County.

Stenson's original trial and death sentence was overturned by the state Supreme Court last year.

A jury found Stenson guilty in 1994 in the killings of his wife Denise, and business partner Frank Hoerner at an exotic bird farm near Sequim.
