Preliminary work on Carlsborg UGA sewer project soon

(Port Angeles) -- The Carlsborg Urban Growth Area Sewer Project is taking shape, after several long years of delays and litigation.
At their Monday worksession, Clallam County Commissioners heard about several aspects of the project from Bob Martin of the Public Works Department.
Commissioner Jim McEntire says the county is going to start letting contracts for the preliminary engineering, permitting and planning process so construction can begin sometime next year.
McEntire says once the preliminary work is established, the County can figure out a connection policy and range of costs, with incentive plans for people to connect with the new sewer system sooner, rather than later.
Eventually, an engineering firm will design the pipework that will go into ground in Carlsborg and move the wastewater to Sequim.
McEntire says the county will be starting simultaneously on a couple of different contracts with consulting firms and engineers.
Commissioner McEntire doesn't anticipate any problems with getting water right now, but the question remains how to mitigate for future water needs to fill up the PUD system and extend it throughout Carlsborg.
