PUD approves immediate three percent electricity rate hike
July 2nd, 2013 - 5:41am
(Port Angeles) -- Clallam PUD customers will see their electricity bills go up.
Effective immediately, the PUD is raising rates by three percent. PUD commissioners approved the move yesterday after wrapping the last of four meetings across the county about the increase.
PUD treasurer Josh Bunch says the PUD plans to add another three percent increase next year.
The increase is being fueled by rate hikes in wholesale power prices for the PUD.
The Bonneville Power Administration is planning a nine percent increase for the PUD beginning this fall.
But Bunch says the PUD will commit to staying within the total six percent increase over the next two years.
Bunch says they will make up the difference between the increase in power costs and the rise in local rates by cutting overhead and trying to increase efficiencies throughout the utility district's operations.
