(Westport) -- Westport Shipyard laid off dozens of employees from its Western Washington locations this week.

Human Resources Manager Jennifer Swogger cited that market conditions as the reason for the layoffs, telling Radio K-B-K-W in Aberdeen "the reduction is reflective of the current market conditions for premiere luxury yachts."

Swogger did not comment on the exact number, but sources told the radio station that at least 40 received notification this week in Westport.

At the height of a market, Westport Shipyard employed nearly one thousand.

Since its founding in 1964, has completed a total of more than 120 yachts and many commercial vessels.

The most recent yacht from the company, the Westport 112, was featured in the December edition of Yachts International.
