Boat runs aground on Dungeness Spit
July 22nd, 2013 - 5:46am
(Sequim) -- Rescuers plucked two stranded boaters from the Dungeness Spit.
Just before one Saturday morning, Clallam County Sheriff's Deputies rescued two people from a 32 foot Bayliner boat that had beached on the Dungeness spit.
The Coast Guard asked the sheriff's office to help with the beached boat, because it couldn't respond due to low tidal conditions.
Deputies found the boat found nearly parallel to the shore line, with breaking surf, causing the vessel to violently shift on and off the shoreline.
80-year-old James Grever was operating the boat. 58-year-old David Wilcox was a passenger. Both are from the Whidbey Island area.
The accident is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office boating unit. Alcohol and drug use
were not suspected.
