Suspicious fire investigated west of Port Angeles

(Port Angeles) -- Authorities are considering a brush fire west of Port Angeles suspicious.
Early yesterday morning, Fire District Two crews were called to the fire in the Elwha RV Park. The 911 caller stated the fire was within 100 feet of their residence and was beginning to spread.
Firefighters arrived to find eight foot flames emanating from a large slash pile. They had the fire under control within an hour and estimated the size to be less than one acre. No structures were damaged.
But chief Sam Phillips says the origin of this fire is suspicious, there were no natural causes for the fire and it began in an area where there had been no human work activity for several days. The sheriff's office is now helping with the investigation.
