City to mark official beginning of Lauridsen Bridge replacement
August 13th, 2013 - 5:43am
(Port Angeles) -- The city of Port Angeles kicks off demolition of the Lauridsen Boulevard bridge.
This morning, crews will hold a brief ceremony at 10 am to start the deconstruction of the old bridge and building of a new bridge at the site.
The bridge permanently closed on August 5.
The city is replacing the 45-year-old bridge with a single span concrete structure.
The new bridge will enhance pedestrian facilities with widened sidewalks, extend bicycle lanes across the bridge and improved turning radii at the intersection. The new bridge will look very similar to the style of the 8th Street Bridges. The project is expected to cost four and half million dollars.
