PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (AP) - A Port Townsend, Wash., man and woman who worked as caregivers for the man's mother have been charged with manslaughter in the April death of the 77-year-old woman.
The Peninsula Daily News reports that 56-year-old Richard Huber and 70-year-old Betty Haley are scheduled for arraignment Friday in Superior Court. They are also charged with first-degree theft.
The two are accused of neglecting Huber's mother, Kathleen Johnson of Marrowstone Island, and contributing to her death.
Court papers say the two moved in with Johnson last October after the death of her husband.
On April 14, Huber brought his mother to a hospital emergency room. Court documents say the Jefferson County sheriff's office learned that the woman was severely dehydrated and in renal failure, with a fractured kneecap and multi-organ failure.
