(Port Angeles) -- Olympic Medical Center is trying to bring another cardiologist to the area.
OMC chief executive officer Eric Lewis says staff are working on
a recruitment agreement to procure a third cardiologist for the hospital.
"At Olympic Medical Physicians, we have two cardiologists. But, because of the workload, they are just not enough cardiologists in the community. So we are working with Swedish to recruit a third cardiologists to serve Port Angeles and Sequim. At our next board meeting, we plan to bring a recruitment agreement for the commissioners to consider," Lewis told KONP.
Meantime, OMC is also moving ahead with changes at its emergency room.
The ER is being remodeled to increase space and will allow for more patients.
"The emergency room has experienced very high patient volumes. We've started doing a remodel expansion to increased the number of patient beds from 11 to 14. That project has started and will be completed by December. It will be nice to have additional room," said Lewis.
So far this year, OMC's daily patient census is up 6% and visits to the emergency room are up 3% compared to last year.
