Fire levels Port Angeles carport

August 26th, 2013 - 5:10am

(Port Angeles) -- Neighbors heard an explosion before a carport went up in flames yesterday afternoon south of Port Angeles.

It happened about 2:30 at 729 Benson Road.

When Fire District Two crews arrived, they found a three vehicle carport totally engulfed in flames.

The flames had also started about a 40 by 80 foot brush fire.

Firefighters quickly put water on the structure and put out the fires that were spreading to an adjacent shed and nearby grass and trees.

Witnesses say they heard at least one loud bang, looked out the window and saw flames coming out from the carport. The property owners called 911 and tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher but it was too big.

The carport and an adjacent shed were a total loss.
