Port commission changes president in wake of email report

(Port Angeles) -- Port of Port Angeles commissioners John Calhoun and Paul McHugh ousted commissioner Jim Hallett from his position as president of the board.
During a commission meeting this morning Calhoun and McHugh voted to make Calhoun the president of the board.
After the vote, Calhoun immediately took the gavel from Hallett, who was moved to secretary-treasurer and the two changed seats.
The move was precipitated by both McHugh, who lost his seat in the primary and will leave the commission at the end of the year, and Calhoun saying they could not work with Hallett. They said the commission would be ineffective with its present configuration.
The move came after emails surfaced last week that showed exchanges between Hallett and port commission candidate and current port employee Coleen McAleer. In the May 15th emails, Hallett outlined his efforts to get another port commissioner on board with changing the executive director. He also encourage McAleer to file a whistleblower complaint. McAleer had complained about management problems at the port and has made changing the culture at the port one of her campaign issues.
Earlier in today's port meeting, a citizen spoke during the public comment section, and called for Hallett's and McAleer's resignation.
