City to buy street-fixing machine

September 5th, 2013 - 5:49am

(Port Angeles) -- Streets in Port Angeles are about to get better, thanks to city council action this week, in approving the purchase of a street crack sealing machine.

City staff says over 75 percent of the streets in the city are rated in either a "poor" or "failed" condition. They say crack sealing will add 3 to 8 years of life to an existing street that meets the criteria for crack seal application.

The city's new Public Works Director, Craig Fulton, says the city could use the machine.

The machine will cost $61-thousand dollars.

The city will move funds within the existing street division budget to buy the machine. Fulton says it will not reduce previously scheduled end-of-year maintenance functions.
