County mulling purchase of old city hall
September 16th, 2013 - 6:20am
(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County commissioners this week take up possible interest in the old fire hall along Lincoln Street.
Commissioners will talk about the possibility of the county assuming responsibility for the building during a worksession Tuesday morning.
The city of POrt Angeles owns the building. But it has received an offer of $5 from a private party to take over the building and restore it.
The city and county have been in discussions for a number of years about what to do the the building. Both contributed to a condition-assessment on the building. The county's interest could include relocating the county's veterans center into the building if it is refurbished. But the city says it has no money to put toward rehabing the building.
In an email to the county, Port Angeles city manager Dan McKeen says the city was contacted August 12th by the individual wishing to take over the old building. The city is not naming the individual.
McKeen says he wanted to alert the county, because if the building is sold to a private individual, it would preclude using it for the Veteran's Center.
