Retrial begins in decades-old Sequim double murder
September 16th, 2013 - 6:23am
(Port Orchard) -- The re-trial of a former Sequim man on double murder begins today (Monday) in Kitsap County.
Jury selection is expected to start in Port Orchard for Darold Stenson.
Stenson is facing two counts of aggravated, first-degree murder for the 1993 killings of his wife and business partner at the Stenson's bird farm near Sequim.
His previous conviction and death sentence was thrown out by the state Supreme Court.
Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty this time.
Stenson's re-trial has been moved to Kitsap County due to publicity and what a judge called inflammatory statements made in the media by some people involved in the case. Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brooke Taylor will preside over the case.
The trial is expected to last a couple of months.
