County says no, for now, on purchase of old PA fire hall building

(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County will wait for now on plans for the old fire hall along Lincoln Street in Port Angeles. But in the interim, it appears county commissioners aren't interested in taking over the building.
Commissioners were considering whether the county should take over the building from the city.
The county and city jointly funded a study of the historic building that came back showing it could take 2 million dollars in renovations to upgrade the building for ultimate use again. The city owns the building, but the county is interested in using part of the building to house the county's Veteran's Center.
But last month, the city was approached with a private offer to buy the building for five dollars plus the renovation cost.
The city contacted the county about the offer. If the city accepts, the county may not have access to the building for a Vets' Center.
Commissioner Jim McEntire says two of the commissioners are not in favor of purchasing the building at this time.
The city has not identified who the private party interested in the old fire hall building.
