(Port Angeles) – A severely underweight horse is recovering after being seized in a warrant service on Black Diamond Road by sheriff's deputies last week.
Deputies investigated the case after receiving reports about the horse.
The horse is now under the protection of the Sheriff's Office and being treated at a secure location.
Second-degree animal cruelty charges are pending against the owner.
Animal control officer Tracey Kellas says the horse's condition is improving, but still guarded.
The sheriff's office takes many Animal Control related calls throughout the year, some
involving the seizure and care of larger animals.
The budget for care of these animals is extremely limited.
If you would like to donate to the care of the horse, you can make a donation at any First Federal location under Animal Rescue.
