Downtown Port Angeles to get new "brand" starting this week

September 24th, 2013 - 5:24am

(Port Angeles) Downtown Port Angeles begins a new branding effort today.

Consultants from South Carolina are in town to meet with local residents, business leaders and elected officials trying to come up with a new logo and slogan for the city's downtown.

Ben and Tripp Muldrow have done similar work in hundreds of other communities, trying to sum up the essence of a town in a few words.

They'll do it with five focus groups meeting today and tomorrow. Participants will be asked questions about what makes downtown Port Angeles uniquely Port Angeles.

At two this afternoon public officials will meet for the first focus group. The consultants will meet with youth at 3:30 and a community leadership group will gather at 5:30.

Tomorrow, there will be groups of downtown business operators and those involved with tourism.

The consultants will present the new brand at 5:30 Thursday evening.

All of the events take place at the Landing Mall.

The Port Angeles Downtown Association used 12-thousand dollars in state Main Street program dollars to bring the consultants to town.
