Fire destroys pickup, trailer saved

(Port Angeles) -- A Dodge Dakota pick-up truck trying to make its way up a rain-soaked and muddy road east
of Port Angeles, ended up catching fire, never making it to its destination.
The pick-up truck was hauling a trailer of building supplies and was actually being assisted up the steep
road by a tow truck when the fire broke out in the pick-up's engine compartment.
It happened Monday afternoon near the intersection of Township Line Road and Watershed Road in
unincorporated Port Angeles.
Fire District 3 fire personnel out of Sequim, were toned out at 12:14 PM and arrived to find the pick-up
truck engulfed in flames.
Fire Department spokesman Patrick Young says 2 engines and 5 firefighters were able to protect the trailer
that was carry a large amount of building materials.
The driver of the pick-up was quoted as saying that as the truck struggled up the muddy road, he heard a
pop and saw flames coming from under the hood.
The driver escaped from the burning vehicle and was uninjured.
Truck was a total loss.
